Okay, sure. Arden didn't know much more than what TV said about throwing movie nights, but surely she had the gist. Many ~~moddable~~ pizzas and sodas had been ordered from Pizza Planet - look, Arden loved sweet tea, but even she knew soda was necessary for movie nights. A truly disturbing number of bags of popcorn had been popped and put into bowls and a quick stop at T&C had been made to grab a couple of different popcorn seasonings in case people wanted to experiment with popcorn flavors.

All that was left was to wait for people to show up. She'd texted both Kamala and Cal in full capslock mode about the glory of this movie, and then had ~~handwavily~~ tried to contact as many other residents as possible to tell them about the movie night - texts, email, sign on the door, whatever. Sure, nobody had to come, but she at least wanted to make sure everyone knew they were welcome. She'd also invited Steven and Watts (while double checking that, yes, it really was okay to move furniture around the living room and also eat in there) and had made sure to get a few bags of unbuttered popcorn just for them. Did she think the butter flavoring had any actual dairy in it? No. But she was gonna be careful all the same.

Now she was just pushing the furniture around to make sure that every possible seat had a good view of the incredibly large TV and was in reaching distance of a bowl of popcorn and places to put their cups of soda and plates of pizza down. Midnight Movie Night was about to begin, showcasing the absolute work of art and cultural tour de force that 2 Fast and 2 Family 4 Oceans, the fifteenth 2 Fast 2 Family sequel that was also a prequel to the Oceans Edge series.

This was gonna be great.

"Hmm. What? Oh! Yes. Good. Fine. Great," Kamala said with a big intake of breath. "Just really enjoying the show."

Wait... Was she now in one of the Jaegers?

Damn.

"Oh, like, with all the bad archaeology?" Arden asked, because she could understand that. It was like how scientists refused to watch that movie about people going to the Earth's core to restart it or something.

It looked like someone was having an awakening. Arden leaned back against Cal and tried not to smirk. "Favorite actress of yours?" she asked, innocently.

"I mean, I'd wear one," Arden said. "So long as it wasn't, like, being appropriative or disrespectful. But they're so pretty."

Very sparkly. Arden liked sparkles.

"Yes, precisely," Watts said with a nod. "I'd prefer to give those a miss, thank you."

"Well I don't think it would be," Kamala said with a shrug. "And they are very pretty. When my brother got married a couple of years ago we all got dressed up for the reception. My family did a whole dance number to celebrate them. It was pretty awesome."

Until the Clandestine's arrived but that's another story.

Shut up. You're having an awakening.

"Um. Who is she?" Kamala asked innocently. "She's pretty good in this."

Hey, Arden wasn't the one having trouble breathing over here.

"Oh, she's been in a bunch of things," she said. "I don't follow her much but she seems pretty popular. She might even be in the superhero mega franchise?"

"...Okay but did you all have rehearsals to do the dance number? Was it somehow impromptu? Man, I'd love a dance number at my wedding."

Which she would never actually have, but details.

"Sure, not a problem!" Arden said. "Are there any genres you two particularly enjoy?"

"Oh, maybe that's where I've seen her before," Kamala said, completely ignoring the scene with the hacker woman who was incorporating an engine from a 1970 Dodge Charger into a Jaeger so Kamala could look at IMDB on her phone.

Incredibly rude to the hot hacker, Kamala!

"Maybe if she's been in a bunch of cool things we can have a whole actress-themed movie night."

Just to see if Kamala survived, honestly.

"Oh, we totally rehearsed it," Kamala said pulling out her phone and bringing up the video and offering it to Arden. "It was a blast. The guy in the suit next to me is Bruno."

BD made a happy noise and a mocking beep at Cal. He could be getting head kisses too, but nooo.

"I mean, you guys have airplanes and rocket ships. I assume you know how to launch vehicles into space." He was going to be A Problem when it came to fictional stories, sorry. "I was hoping it wouldn't be a romance story that's just people kissing with no plot."

"Musical comedies," Watts said. "I admit I have not seen much in the way of what you would consider newer pictures, Steven and I tend to go for older ones, as I've a lot to catch up on," he shared.

Omg they were just friends!

"Oh, your sister-in-law is so pretty," Arden said, watching the video. "I like that Bruno is part of this too. Family like 2Fast is family."

She was maybe tearing up a bit watching this.

Shut up.

Silly BD. Cal was uninterested in head kisses from Arden.

But that's okay, because she was already raising an eyebrow at Cal. "And how many romances have you seen?"

"Okay, those all sound like fun things. It seems like this place has a lot of different genres of films," Cal said. "Is this your type, or do you like something else?"

"Bruno really is part of the family," Kamala said, taking a moment as she saw Arden's reaction. "His parents weren't around so his grandmother took him in. And then my family quasi-adopted him. He was always around for holidays and everything."

She paused for a second.

"You okay?"

"Oh sure," Kamala said with a little more emphasis on the 'sure' than she intended. "I mean, yeah, cool. If everyone else is okay with that."

Yeah, Arden didn't even know what would count as a 'musical comedy' because she was tragically ignorant of Danny Kaye's existence. She was gonna assume he meant Broadway musicals with happy endings.

"Good to know. And Marc? Does he like movies?"

"Well, I haven't seen any, but there are books where I'm from, and they're all just... they're either about insultingly unintelligent women getting wooed by men who don't deserve them, or they're just the... adult times. Are the movies here not the same as that?" he asked.

"My family and I like to watch Bollywood movies together," Kamala said listing through her likes. "And I'm really into the Space Battles movies and spin off shows but I'm not familiar with the games or all the books they removed from canon. I've watched a TON of documentaries on all the superheroes and such from my world. And anything nerdy that my friend Bruno made me watch. What about stuff from your world? Do they have movies like this?"

"I mean, women getting wooed by unworthy men is just a fact of life," Arden scoffed, because this was a world wherein 'Man Vs Bear' was a legitimate debate.

She was going to flop down on the couch they'd just moved and patted the cushion next to her for him to sit, too. "But yeah, romance is a spectrum between cheesy romcoms from the 70s and porn," she said, both charmed and entertained by adult times - and more certain than ever that the Code meant he wasn't into them. "Romances are about people finding connection together. Falling in love. Getting past all the stupid obstacles that the world likes to insist are important and all the stupid prejudices and beliefs they've been clinging to in order to see the real person in front of them and realize that that person means the whole world to them. How is that boring?"

"We'll have to make a list of things she's in to watch then," Arden said. "Just to get an idea."

Excellent, this house needed more disaster bisexuals. Especially since Cal was actually a useless lesbian and took away from the count.
